Promising results from Stockton, Calif.’s experiment with guaranteed basic income has other mayors seeking a nationwide program. For 18 months, 125 random households in Stockton received $500 each month, funded by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes’s Economic Security Project and other donors. Recipients spent most of the money on utility and food bills. Now about two dozen mayors across the country are asking for a national guaranteed-income program. ( Wall Street Journal — subscription)
