Coronavirus in Scotland: Basic income would help those 'failed' by support system

Shirley-Anne Somerville THE SCOTTISH Government believes a universal basic income could help support “people that have been failed” by the system during the Covid-19 economic shutdown.

The SNP and the Scottish Greens have called in the past for a citizens basic income to be introduced – but it cannot happen without the support of the UK Government, which remains opposed to the idea.
