The city of Rochester’s funding of its police department has risen steadily over the last 20 years, even as money for youth services and the Rochester City School District have decreased or stayed flat, according to a new budget analysis by a coalition of local progressive groups.
In 2006-07, the city spent $3.59 on law enforcement for every one dollar it spent in Recreation and Youth Services. By 2019-20 that had risen to $7.86 on the police for every one dollar in Recreation and Youth Services.
