guaranteed income

Description Universal basic income (UBI) is a social welfare proposal in which all citizens of a given population regularly receive a minimum income in the form of an unconditional transfer payment, i.e., without a means test or need to work. If the level is sufficient to meet a person’s basic needs (i.e., at or above the poverty line), it is sometimes called a full basic […]

Right-Wing Think Tank Pushes States to Ban Guaranteed Income Programs

Right-Wing Think Tank Pushes States to Ban Guaranteed Income Programs

Anti-UBI r/BasicIncome – Right-Wing Think Tank Pushes States to Ban Guaranteed Income Programs The sad part is that a lot of the “work” being done in the US these days (and especially high-paying jobs) is really just helping to funnel more wealth to the already wealthy at the expense of others, as opposed to creating value for everyone.

Maybe we should ban that sort of valueless work.

JonWood007 • 4h ago I’d be fine with simply making work voluntary. Although if certain work is actively harmful to society I aint opposed to banning it as well. Idle_Redditing • 1h ago […]

Medical Journal Article: Replace SNAP Benefits with Cash

A man shops for produce at Best World Supermarket in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, D.C., August 19, 2022. Continuing my discussion of how ideological medical and science journals strive to redefine almost every public policy controversy into matters of public health to push leftwing agendas: An article in the notoriously woke New England Journal of Medicine argues that rather than give SNAP benefits to poor people–what used to be called food stamps — cash transfers should be provided to improve the “health” of the recipients.

Here’s the context: Bipartisan plans are afoot to restrict the items that can […]

More and more Gen Zers are struggling to stay in work or school. With $350 monthly, a New Orleans guaranteed income program hoped to change that.

For some young New Orleans residents, guaranteed basic income helped them afford a ride to work. For others, the money helped cover school supplies and uniforms.

Between April 2022 and January 2023, the city gave 125 young people $350 a month, no strings attached . The program intended to fill gaps in the social safety net (which includes programs like SNAP, Medicaid, and rental vouchers) and alleviate financial stress for people between the ages of 16 and 24.

All participants were considered “ opportunity youth ” — not enrolled in work or school — at the start of the pilot. They […]
