Universal Basic Income to eliminate poverty: utopian idea or innovative solution?

What if all the governments across the world took it upon themselves to provide food, shelter, and other basic necessities to those who cannot afford it? Would it be the ideal solution to eliminate world poverty? At least, that’s the premise of Universal Basic Income. In a TED talk held last month, Dutch historian Rutger Bregman strongly advocated the benefits of basic income for eliminating poverty and even received a standing ovation for it.
