As EightFingers asked, who will do non-automatable jobs (especially undesirable jobs)? In the final years of the Soviet Union where the "they pretend to pay us, we pretend to work" scheme prevailed, the agricultural system was having difficulty finding people to fix tractors. It was considered hard work.

Most people desire to keep busy; certainly in the hypothetical UBI system people would still aspire to work in tech, or sales, or in office jobs in air conditioned buildings, or train to be doctors, pilots and astronomers.
