The Pineapple Fund has committed $5 million to GiveDirectly, the organization behind the world’s largest-ever basic income experiment in Kenya.
The Pineapple Fund, which was founded earlier this month by an anonymous bitcoin millionaire known only as “Pine,” announced its donation on the basic income subreddit. The organization has already given to charities engaged in medical research (SENS Research Foundation), environmental conservation (BitGive, Green Steps), and the defense of digital civil liberties (the Electronic Frontier Foundation).GiveDirectly intends to use the money to pay participants in its 12-year basic income experiment, which began in November.
