Absent political constraints many economist including myself believe that UBI would be a public policy that could improve social welfare (the welfare and output of the entire economy).
There are a few economic points worth noting about UBI (without a phase out or a very high phase out above 2 x median or average income) that may be contrary to popular opinion and assumptions:
