Temporary basic income for the poorest could slow the increase in Covid-19 cases

Many of the people who are not covered by social insurance programmes are informal workers, low-wage workers, women, youth, refugees, migrants and people with disabilities, who are also the most affected by the current crisis.

According to the most recently published report of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the introduction of a temporary basic income for the world’s poorest people could slow the current increase in Covid-19 cases by allowing nearly 3 billion people to remain in their homes during the pandemic.
