Renewed calls for SA to have a basic income grant

30 April 2021: Musa Sefala, 22, celebrates making it to the door of the post office after midday, having arrived at 5am for the social relief of distress grant. A winding queue stretched outside the Primrose post office in Germiston on the morning of Friday 30 April as many braved the cold to collect the social relief of distress grant. By mid-afternoon, only a few had received their money. Most were told to come back in two weeks to collect what could be their last payment of the grant, which was discontinued that Friday.
