Politics of poverty: Basic Income Support is a constitutional, moral and justice imperative

The government must begin to work towards a universal basic income for all. But until social assistance for the unemployed is made permanent, the Black Sash is calling for the Covid-19 increase of R250 per month to be made permanent for all grants and for the immediate increase of the reinstated Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant to at least the Food Poverty Line, currently pegged at R585.
