Union members picketed in Cape Town’s city centre ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday evening.
Led by SAFTU, they called for the implementation of a Basic Income Grant and several other policy changes.
During his speech, Ramaphosa addressed some of the unions’ demands. The President extended the R350 Social Relief of Distress grant until the end of March 2023.
