The Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), on May 18, suggested that the government should come out with a guaranteed employment scheme to create jobs for the urban unemployed. It also advised that a universal basic income should be introduced. Additionally, it said higher funds should be allocated towards the social sector to reduce inequality in India.
The report titled ‘The State of Inequality in India’, commissioned by the EAC-PM , was prepared by the Institute for Competitiveness. It was released by EAC-PM Chairman Bibek Debroy.
