Why has no country yet replaced welfare with basic income?

Whether it be UBI or NIT, basic income programs have proven to be extraordinary success’ . Many of the knee-jerk criticisms of basic income have been proven mostly wrong . There is even evidence that links BI to increases in GDP . So why has nobody gone the distance? Why do nations still choose indirect benefits over direct cash payments?

They just call it a trojan horse to cutting all social programs, the public gets spooked, and the conservatives drop it and never bring it up again. Since they’ve opposed it, they can’t propose it themselves.
