Shillong, Dec 13 (IANS): Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday promised to launch the "Meghalaya Financial Inclusion for Women Empowerment", promising a guaranteed income support of Rs 1,000 per month to each woman, if it comes to power in the northeastern state.
Months ahead of the Assembly elections in Meghalaya, Banerjee, speaking at a party workers’ convention in Shillong, said that the proposed scheme would be on the lines of West Bengal’s successful ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’ scheme which according to her has already benefited 1.8 crore women in her home state.
