(The Center Square) — About 440 parents will get $500 a month for 18 months when St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signs legislation creating a guaranteed basic income, part of a $52 million allocation dollars in federal funding for pandemics.
The St. Louis Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday 21-1, with one present and one abstention, for the mailing Board Bill 116 to Jones. The guaranteed basic income plan will distribute $4 million in federal funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to parents. An additional $1 million will be used for benefit advisors and program administrators.
