VOICE OF THE PEOPLE: CEO compensation isn’t necessarily merit pay

Galen Weston is president of Loblaw Companies Ltd. – Loblaw – CNW Group Sylvain Charlebois suggests (April 11) that it’s unlikely that Galen Weston (who owns 56 per cent of a family company that owns 52 per cent of Loblaw, and by a stunning coincidence is also the Loblaw CEO) would have been hired away by Costco or Walmart if Loblaw hadn’t given him a 52 per cent raise.
