In what Commissioner Rodney Ellis (D-Pct. 1) described as an effort to address “wealth income inequality,” Harris County will use federal COVID-19 relief funds to give 1,500 selected households a monthly stipend of $500 beginning this fall.
“Decades of neglect, inequality, and discrimination have financially destabilized generations of Harris County families,” Ellis said during a Monday press conference with Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo.
