Supporters of the program say a guaranteed monthly cash payment for those living below the poverty line in Boston will strengthen the workforce, improve health and give more people the chance to attend college.

The Boston City Council is currently measuring universal income and looking at other cities and states that have done so to see the results. Details on who will be eligible and how much they will receive are unclear.
