Texas County Implements Revised Guaranteed Income Program with Spending Restrictions

Harris County in Texas is moving forward with a modified version of its guaranteed income program, known as “Uplift Harris,” after the original initiative was halted by the Texas Supreme Court due to concerns about its constitutionality. The program aims to provide financial assistance to approximately 1,600 low-income families who were selected for the original program. However, the new version includes spending restrictions to address the court’s constitutional concerns.
