Even though I am an ardent Bernie Sanders supporter, I think he is making a big mistake by proposing a plan to have the federal government provide a public-sector, living-wage job to everyone who wants or needs one.
This particular job guarantee was designed by Stephanie Kelton, a Sanders policy adviser. A very educated liberal economist, I heard her say that a universal basic income plan was a poor substitute for a government-job guarantee. (With universal income, the government would pay every adult citizen a flat annual fee, whether or not they already have a job.)
