The Current State of Automation in Apparel Manufacturing

The apparel manufacturing industry is at a radical juncture due to changes in automation technologies that alter how apparel has been produced for many years. From automated cutting systems to robotic sewing machines, these developments are transforming the way clothes are made. They also raise questions about what the future holds for fashion production. The current textile manufacturing plants have become relatively sophisticated with machinery that can do nearly everything in the production process: CAD systems for pattern generation

This is a good thing imho. If the choices are an underclass of migrant labor whose human rights are always in jeopardy, or automation, automation is the path to success. Subsidies should be provided to help small and family farms with the cost. There is no shortage of labor, but a shortage of people willing to work at the wages on offer for the job (in the US). Without shortages, humans are treated as a surplus resource. Force the system to achieve an outcome more favorable to the human.

As a mist of rain sprinkled the fields around him in Homestead, Florida, Ford bemoaned how expensive it had been running a fossil fuel-powered irrigation system on his five-acre farm — and how bad it was for the planet.

Earlier this month, Ford installed an automated underground system that uses a solar-powered pump to periodically saturate the roots of his crops, saving “thousands of gallons of water.” […]
