On Universal Basic Income

On Universal Basic Income

As democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang is getting at least a little attention, and his major idea is universal basic income, I thought I would write a little about it.

Note that there are plenty of ways to implement UBI, and it would be difficult to address them all, so I will specifically addressing UBI as described by Andrew Yang on his website .

The basic idea of UBI is that every adult citizen will receive a certain income from the government with no strings attached (except one important one, which I’ll address in a second), in this particular case $12,000 […]

What if Google shared its profits off your data with you?

Opinion post by Google makes a lot of money. In the first quarter of 2019, Google earned just over $36 billion in revenue . That’s about $400 million every day. Profit margins are currently at around 23 percent, so that’s $92 million every 24 hours in profit.

While the company earns its cash in many different ways, it primarily earns its revenue on the back of your Google data.

When you use Google products — including Google Search, Gmail , Google Maps , and anything else with the word Google in it — the company tracks how you use those products. […]

Andrew Yang: Universal Basic Income plan

I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A VERY LONG POST, HOWEVER I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ IT ALL. IT PROVIDES GREAT CONTEXT AND IS VERY INTERESTING FOR SOMEONE WITH STRONG POLITICAL MOTIVATION!

During the 2020 Democratic Presidential Debate, candidate Andrew Yang stated his idea to give out $1,000 to each individual in the U.S. over 18 each month (Universal Basic Income <UBI>).

Using simple calculations that’d come out to be $12,000,000,000,000 (12 Trillion USD) over the course of one four-year presidential term. The U.S. National Debt is around $22,000,000,000,000 (22 Trillion USD).The estimated net worth of the entire world populace (in 2015) is around […]

#BlackHer2020: Guaranteed Income

Millions of Black women are treading water economically. The rising costs of housing, healthcare, and childcare coupled with student loan debt and stagnant wages, make it difficult for us to stay afloat. We need more money to successfully navigate our lives.

Unfortunately, Black women only earn $0.63 to the dollar compared to white men, have the most outstanding student debt after college graduation , and the lowest measurable wealth of any group in the country. The Black Futures Lab recently conducted the Black Census and found that 90% of respondents view “wages too low to sustain a family” as one […]

By 2030, 20 Million Workers Will Lose their Jobs to Robots

A new study from analysis firm Oxford Economics predicts that by 2030, over 20 million workers in the manufacturing industry will lose their jobs to robots.

At last nights Democratic Debate for the 2020 Nominee for President Andrew Yang presented his key signature plan of $ 1000 a month guaranteed income for every American. The reason for the automatic income for everyone is the rise of Robots. He argues that it’s going to happen very soon and we will NOT be able to replace those jobs replaced by robots. Thus we will need this income to make our economy […]

Yang, Ryan, Klobuchar mention Michigan in 1st Dem presidential debates

Flickr Michigan may be front and center in the presidential race with President Donald Trump , Vice President Mike Pence and 14 Democratic hopefuls stumping here already, but we only got a few brief mentions in the first Democratic debates this week.

Three candidates, U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and businessman Andrew Yang — who have all campaigned in the Mitten — name-dropped the state in debates. I cut my political reporting teeth on the Iowa caucuses a couple decades ago. And I’ll admit that I have a soft spot for a process that revolves […]
