Families, Children and Women Need a Basic Income

Families, Children and Women Need a Basic Income

Women need a basic income because our economy shortchanges families, children, workers, and females. Sadly, being female is often a ticket to poverty in America.

For example, the average working American woman made $31,610 a year in 2017, the US Census Bureau estimates . Meanwhile, the average working man in America had a take home pay of $44,408 a year.

Moreover, the median female income in America in 2017 was $41,977 a year according to the Census Bureau. However, the average 2017 male income in America was $52,146 a year. America Shortchanges Women and Men Interestingly, you can argue America’s […]

Might Universal Basic Income Reduce Obesity?

Might Universal Basic Income Reduce Obesity?

Universal basic income is generating some buzz in this election cycle. Presidential candidate Andrew Yang is pushing this idea of a guaranteed income for every adult. No strings attached. But Alaska already has it. Since 1983, the state’s Permanent Fund Dividend has provided an annual, unconditional, and universal income to Alaskans. If something like UBI (universal basic income) went into effect, wouldn’t the prices of most goods and services also increase in price to reflect the new average “wealth” of individuals?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for something like UBI- especially with the ever-increasing wealth gap in the U.S. But, as a person who can’t afford to buy housing and has to rent, I’m skeptical about the actual efficacy of the policy to control price gauges. If a renter knows that renters have additional “income” at their disposable every month, wouldn’t they just hike rates to match this new […]

It was launched in 1995 with the main goal of reducing poverty through economic development based on public participation. By the end of the 1990s, the program was fully functioning in 21 of the country’s 25 districts.

The program has gone through considerable transformations over the years. More recently, it has been modified to consist two main components – the relief program and the empowerment program. The former includes cash transfer, social security fund, and nutrition. The empowerment program comprises […]

More Consumers Say Yes To Guaranteed Income

More Consumers Say Yes To Guaranteed Income

It’s a choice many people face when they hit retirement age: Keep their funds in a lump sum “nest egg” or put some of that money into a vehicle that provides them with guaranteed income for life.

LIMRA research indicates more people are receptive to the guaranteed income option, but certain consumer segments are more receptive than others.

Having enough money to last a lifetime was the major goal across all financial segments in a recent LIMRA Secure Retirement Institute survey of pre-retirees and retirees. In addition, as many as one-third of pre-retirees said they fear running out of money in […]
