Healthy diet out of reach for many, health unit says

The cost to purchase healthy food in Perth County for a family of four went down by $7.50 per week compared to last year, the latest Perth District Health Unit’s report on food affordability shows.

But the local organization, which conducts the study every year in the county, said buying nutritious food is still out of reach for a lot of families in the community.

“We estimate the numbers we have here in Perth County are that about nine per cent of people are affected by food insecurity,” said Natalee Ridgeway, public health dietitian and who participated in putting […]

The political podcasts you should be listening to right now

You remember Nick Kouvalis. He’s the political operative who worked with Conservative leadership contender Kellie Leitch, as well as the current and former mayors of Toronto, John Tory and Rob Ford.

Liberals aren’t crazy about Kouvalis — but he has a surprising political prediction for 2018. Kouvalis believes that Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has a good chance of being re-elected in next spring’s provincial election. Really.

That unexpected forecast was delivered in a new podcast hosted by David Herle, the long-time Liberal strategist who delivered Wynne’s last victory and is lined up to run her next campaign, too.“You guys here in […]

Report Subtitle Errors What would life be like if your government
made sure every citizen was financially secure
regardless of whether they worked or not? Many nation states already have some form of safety net for citizens. Some do this better than others. People can be stigmatized just for trying to use the safety net and trying to get the benefits you’re entitled to can be really difficult not to mention confusing. Long forms, measly payments and harsh rules imposed by governments […]

Basic Income and the Growth of Economic Democracy

Basic Income and the Growth of Economic Democracy

For those who see worker cooperatives and other forms of economic democracy as the alternative to capitalist enterprises and the seeds of an alternative, egalitarian society, there are at least three paths one might envision to that egalitarian society. First, one might imagine worker control legislated by the state, enfranchising all workers (at least of enterprises above a certain size) with rights of representation or ownership in their workplaces. This is unlikely to happen in the United States without a radical displacement of Democrats by independent leftist legislators, or the equally unlikely takeover of the Democratic party by leftists. […]

Universal Basic Income is Commie Caca

Universal Basic Income is Commie Caca

Hey there Screamager!

In the lands far and beyond on the internet where I spend most of my free time arguing with Leftists, another one of their agitprops keeps coming up. That is of course Universal Basic Income. So let’s deconstruct this commie horseshit for what it is. First lets talk about cost of living in my area. It’s important to understand this so I can bring it back around. Let’s do some back of the envelope calculations:

Cost of Living, Colorado Springs, CO roughly about 500,000 people. This is specifically for my area. But here’s what the cost of […]

Venture capitalist has a plan to unite the aisles on basic income

Venture capitalist has a plan to unite the aisles on basic income

Sam Altman has been nothing if not vocal about his perception in common fundamental revenue (UBI). President of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious startup accelerator, Y Combinator, Altman has led the cost in recent times to find out the feasibility of UBI.

And now he thinks he’s discovered the answer to slim the partisan divide surrounding it.

The important thing, he informed Spectacle, was to deal with it as a modified model of profit-sharing. What I’d suggest is a mannequin like an organization the place you get a share in US Inc. After which, as a substitute of getting a set charge, […]

Sam Altman has been nothing if not vocal about his belief in universal basic income (UBI). President of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious startup accelerator, Y Combinator, Altman has led the charge in recent years to determine the feasibility of UBI.

And now he thinks he’s found the solution to narrow the partisan divide surrounding it.

The key, he told Spectacle , was to treat it as a modified version of profit-sharing. What I would propose is a model like a company where you get a share in US Inc. And then, instead of getting a fixed fee, you get a percentage […]

editorial From the right: Obama’s Echo Chamber Lives On

After President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, notes Matthew Continetti at Commentary , news broadcasts were a veritable reunion for the Obama administration’s “echo chamber” — former adviser Ben Rhodes’ term for the president’s credulous fellow travelers in the media who helped push his Iran deal.. NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC and CNN all brought on guests to push the anti-Israel line, sensing a direct attack on Barack Obama, whose UN resolution on his way out the door took aim at Jewish rights in Jerusalem’s holy sites. “Basic Income” experiment

Banandangees Anything that’s free, right? Bernie will have to change his plan as "what is to be free." What’s the point of a free college education if there will be no jobs… because of robotics. He’ll be pushing the "free" basic income thing. The creators and inventors (and politicians) who make the big bucks (not the equalized "basic income" like you will be getting) will have to have their incomes cut… I mean, really, something will have to pay for all this "free." But that leaves the politicians (as Obama’s present life is showing) who make the laws, the […]
