When is there going to be basic income in the United States?

We already have several forms of basic income , some provided by the government and some provided by private industry. What the question is implying is that there may one day be a universal basic income that is managed or provided by a single entity, presumably the government.

Contemporary forms of basic income fall into:

> Social security Disability Pensions These are all examples of fixed incomes that the recipients do not manage and which are guaranteed by either the government or private industry to continue for life or until some other form of fixed income replaces them.Of course, “guaranteed” […]

Universal basic income: Money for nothing or efficient equalizer?

World (JR) – Economists, philosophers and political thinkers have long pondered how to end poverty. Lately, an old idea has taken on new life. A universal basic income (UBI) is an unconditional, regular cash payment from the state to every citizen. Proponents see it as a safety net for anyone battered by the fast-changing, globalized economy. Some in Silicon Valley have taken a shining to the proposal, seeing it as a way to stymie inequality should robots take our jobs .

The idea has been around a lot longer than robots, though. In 1516, in his political treatise Utopia , […]

Bill Gates: Robot Tax Necessary To Replace Income Funding Social Services

Quartz editor-in-chief Kevin Delaney recently interviewed billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) co-founder Bill Gates, where the richest man in the world, as reported by Forbes , expressed his belief that with automated solutions replacing human workers, taxes will need to be paid by robots to make up for lost revenue that currently funds important social service programs.

Gates finds the situation where a person earning a salary of $50,000, and paying a portion of their income to the government in taxes, being replaced by a robot that pays none, unsustainable. “What the world wants is to take this […]

Recently, Elon Musk had the chance to share his thoughts on universal basic income (UBI) at the World Government Summit in Dubai. At the Summit, Musk had the opportunity to talk about the future, and the challenges the world will face in the next hundred years – including artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and the job displacement expected to come with it.

When asked about the challenges civilization is set to face in the near future, Musk began by noting the threat of artificial intelligences that surpass humanity. He stated, “deep artificial intelligence, or artificial general intelligence, where you can have […]

Is Finland’s basic universal income a solution to automation, fewer jobs and lower wages?

Is Finland’s basic universal income a solution to automation, fewer jobs and lower wages?

When he got the letter after Christmas saying he was entitled to an unconditional income of €560 (£478) a month, Mika Ruusunen couldn’t believe his luck. “At first I thought it was a joke. I had to read it many times. I looked for any evidence it might be false.”

But the father of two was not the victim of a scam. He has been selected to take part in an experiment being run by the Finnish government, in which 2,000 unemployed people between the ages of 25 and 58 will receive a guaranteed sum – a “basic income” – […]
