Does giving people cash work? What six months of the Basic Income Project in Denver tell us

Six months ago, the Denver Basic Income Project (DBIP) began distributing regular, no-strings-attached cash to homeless people.

On Tuesday, the group released data midway through the pilot program showing homelessness and food insecurity rates have declined while housing and employment rates have increased over the past six months.

While many government support programs come with spending limits and requirements, universal basic income gives money directly to people and trusts that people in poverty know what they need most.
