In a telling review of the precarious state of purchasing power of Indians and inequality, a recent report released by Dr Bibek Debroy , Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) revealed that those earning a mere Rs 25000 per month of Rs 3 lakh per annum are in the 10% of income earners in the country.
The report mooted an urban jobs scheme and universal basic income as a means to reduce inequality in the country.
