The Finnish government has decided not to extend the limited experiment of the unconditional basic income, which has triggered a great international interest. At present, 2,000 unemployed people receive a guaranteed monthly subsidy of 560 EUR (685 USD) as basic income.
“The enthusiasm of the government evaporates. It rejected additional funding”, said Olli Kangas, who is researcher at the Kela Institute of Social Insurance and one of the initiators of the experiment.
