Speaking this week at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting in Ottawa, Doug Ford promised that he will not do as he did to Toronto and arbitrarily shrink local councils. At least not in the "near future."
That seems to have brought little comfort to municipal leaders, many of whom worry that since Ford showed so little regard for democracy in Toronto, he could easily do the same thing across the province.
