“The provision for the abolition of basic income is bad and does not take into account the hardships faced by many people, not only here in Naples but all over Italy”. This was expressed by Roberto Fico, chairman of the 5 Star Movement’s guarantee committee, on the occasion of a press conference in Secondigliano, a district of Naples where there are 36,000 basic income recipients. “We must revolt against a cultural idea that poverty and hardship are attacked, and we must step out of the paradigm that this ideological right promotes: Whoever gets the basic income is lazy”.
