SIMCOE – Hunger is a serious problem in Haldimand and Norfolk, but it is not as bad as recent reports have suggested.
In late 2015, Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) issued a report stating that Haldimand and Norfolk topped a list of 36 municipalities in the province in the area of food insecurity.Based on data collected from 2011 through 2013, CCO said 16.3 percent of the counties’ residents suffered from poor diets and chronic hunger.The Haldimand-Norfolk health unit has since learned that CCO’s calculations were erroneous.
