Ireland has launched a bold experiment to support its arts and culture workers. Two thousand visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, actors, dancers, and others chosen at random from among 8,000 applicants will receive a basic income of €325 a week for three years with no constraints on how they spend the money. Included among the recipients are 13 circus artists and 10 architects.
