The Theodore Roosevelt memorial in DC. The idea that every adult American should receive some minimal level of cash without having to demonstrate need is having a moment. So much so that Stanford University has started the Basic Income Lab to track the growing number of experiments in this area.

It now counts around three dozen basic income pilots in effect across the country. Artificial intelligence pioneer Sam Altman announced the results last month of a UBI study he commissioned, exclaiming that the findings show such programs can potentially end poverty.
