An unconditional basic income for each person, without obligation to work and without proof of a need; for a long time this idea was considered as not mundane, as an idealistic utopia. But this time it seems to be over. The concept is receiving enormous attention. It plays a central role in two current but independent debates: first, in the context of digitalisation and the disruptions it has caused. And second, in the Hartz IV and its fundamental reform to abolition.
