Recently, the FM announced a fiscal relief package of Rs 1.7 lakh crore to help the poor. This package—at 1% of GDP—is, at best, a teaser. FM said that the “measures are intended at reaching out to the poorest of the poor, with food and money in hands, so that they do not face difficulties in buying essential supplies and meeting essential needs”.
