To assist transgender and nonbinary residents in overcoming discrimination, a Southern California city is moving forward with plans for monthly payments as high as $900.
The Palm Springs City Council unanimously voted on Thursday to allocate $200,000 from two local nonprofits to begin the process of providing payments to the city’s marginalized residents. The city’s action coincides with California’s implementation of a guaranteed income plan and Republican-led states’ efforts to limit transgender people’s rights.
