The wealth gap between upper-income and lower-income families is increasing.
In 1983, the mean family wealth in lower-income families was $12,000 and the mean family wealth in higher-income families was $344,000. But in 2016 the mean family wealth in lower-income families had dropped to $11,000 and the mean family wealth in higher-income families had increased to $850,000.
