Squashing the Singularity: Why supersmart AI is further away than you might think

Computer scientist and robotics entrepreneur Rodney Brooks has authored a powerful and persuasive corrective to, as he see it, a sort of fanciful optimism about the speed of artificial intelligence advancement. In an essay at MIT Technology Review, Brooks offers reasoned skepticism about the “wide-scale destruction of jobs, the Singularity, or the advent of AI that has values different from ours and might try to destroy us” and urges experts “push back” against such mistaken thinking.
