St. Paul uses CARES Act money for mayor’s guaranteed income program for struggling families

The Metropolis Council of St. Paul, Minn., voted to launch an experimental $1.5 million assured earnings program for low-income households Wednesday after Mayor Melvin Carter signed onto the group Mayors for a Assured Earnings.

This system will divert $300,000 in CARES Act funding to offer 150 households funds of $500 a month, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported. The remainder of the 18-month program will probably be funded by philanthropy, the mayor stated, in line with the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
