A new study posted by a web-based financial advising firm found the Visalia-Porterville area has the ninth largest minority wage gap of all midsize U.S. metro areas.
Full-time minority workers in the Visalia-Porterville area earn a median income of $34,500 per year, compared to the nonminority median of $57,000—or 39.5% less than nonminority workers.
"The wage gap is both a symptom and cause of racial inequities," the study’s authors concluded.
