Finland Implementing BASIC INCOME for Unemployed

Finland Implementing BASIC INCOME for Unemployed

I may be repeating some of the stuff in propaganda, but my reluctance here has a lot of merit. A livable UBI can work. It’s not the only answer by far:

Value human labor higher Tax the fucking robots Put people to work on public projects

Could come up with a few more pretty easy.A non livable one ends up being a market solution where markets aren’t well indicated.I don’t like the conflict of interest between human needs and markets very much at all.For things like food, yeah. Markets do work.Utilities? Hate them. People are often forced consumers in monopoly scenarios. […]

1. Encounter to the idea My encounter to the idea of a basic income was around 1991-2. I was involved in solidarity activism with a casual worker’s trade union, in which many of the members were homeless construction workers. Some left leaning intellectuals also came to show their solidarity from time to time, and one of them told me that what we need is the idea of ‘unconditional social income’ that was articulated […]

AUDIO: Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz addresses UBI on the Ezra Klien Show

Economist Joseph Stiglitz was awarded a Nobel Prize in 2001 for his work on information asymmetries in the market. He was Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton and Chief Economist of the World Bank from 1997 to 2000. And he is a supporter of universal basic income (UBI).

On October 25, 2016, Stiglitz was the featured guest on Vox editor Ezra Klein’s podcast, The Ezra Klein Show. Although the question was not a focal point of the 70 minute interview, Klein did ask Stiglitz whether he favors a UBI in the United States.

The famed economist […]

Finland to test ‘universal basic income’ for the unemployed

Your user agent does not support the HTML5 Video element. A group of 2,000 unemployed people in Finland will receive a basic income every month from the state, tax-free and with no strings attached. Proponents hope to prove such schemes boost people’s motivation to find work.

Finland test implementation of unconditional basic income

Finland test implementation of unconditional basic income

Finland intends to examine whether the implementation of unconditional basic income can simplify the social system of the country and lead to more unemployed to find work. In January, 2000 randomly selected unemployed people will receive rather than their unemployment benefit an amount of 560 EUR per month, without any conditions. The money will not be taxed and will not have any financial penalty if the receivers earn extra cash. This test at national level would make Finland the first country in the world that will pay the unconditional basic income.

The testing group will learn shortly before the New […]

What do you guys think of Universal Basic Income?

[Serious] ELI5: Can someone please explain what the UN resolution was, why Israel responded by cutting off relations with those that voted yes, how Israel views US by abstaining, and what is this evidence Netanyahu says he has that he will only share with Trump?

How large a force is the alt-right? Is media coverage blowing them out of proportion?

If a Senator wins the gubernatorial election for that same state that he represents in the Senate, can he appoint his own replacement? without getting into the question of who is right, why does obama and […]

Could Universal Basic Income Work in the U.S.?

Could Universal Basic Income Work in the U.S.?

While it is virtually impossible to argue with the fact that the advancement of technology has increased comfort, efficiency and lower production costs in the business world, it must be acknowledged that this new automated form of production has come at an immensely hefty price. As more and more businesses are automating much of the process, it has led to the need to cut human labor, leaving many individuals out of work. This means that we can reasonably expect that as technology continues to grow and improve that the economic impact on individuals will also intensify.

One would be hard-pressed […]

StarDestroyer.Net BBS

This idea has been floated before and I am at the moment unsure of whether its a good idea. I do think it is one certainly worth studying and experimenting on like some countries are doing. Basically everyone gets a guaranteed income. In exchange we save money on welfare checks (since everyone gets a government handout irrespective of other sources of income, we don’t need money to catch welfare cheats).

I can see some advantages, for example if people are guaranteed an income they may spend their time doing other things like self improvement. However it will also cause inflation […]

Finland Introduces Basic Income for Unemployed

Wednesday, 28 December 2016 Finland is to introduce a basic income for some citizens from next month, becoming the first country to adopt the policy.

Two thousand unemployed people will be given €560 ($600) every month for two years, without any restrictions or conditions attached. Leaders hope the move will improve life quality, reduce unemployment and create jobs.

Recipients will not need to prove they are looking for work and the money will be given regardless of any other income the person earns. The Finnish government is planning to study whether the policy helps recipients find […]

Universal Basic Income (A Response to Josh Barro)

It was interesting to see Josh Barro let the election of Donald Trump help him make up his mind against universal basic income. In my case, even the prospect of a Trump presidency was making it clear to me how important the UBI is as a policy. So I thought I’d quickly jot down some reactions to Barro’s piece.

First, like Barro, I think the strength of the UBI is the way it unites Left and Right. It "has become subject of fascination for policy wonks across the ideological spectrum because of the goals it intends to serve: decoupling subsistence […]
