Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang made his first appearance as a New York City mayoral candidate on Thursday, proposing a basic income program for the city’s poorest.

“We will launch the largest basic income program in the history of the country,” Yang stated. “We will lift hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers out of extreme poverty, putting cash relief directly into the hands of the families who desperately need help right now.”

STA , 12 January 2020 – Representatives of the hospitality industry have warned that the industry is one of the most affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, and that the government’s aid measures do not suffice. They want special treatment in the next legislative stimulus package and a special emergency law that would fully cover wage costs and fixed costs.

Councillors passed a motion in December proposing a pilot study funded by government with no cost to local council taxpayers.
