Nearly one million (990,000) pre-retirees aged over 55 are considering annuities for the first time in preparation for their retirement, research from Legal & General Retail has revealed.

The research detailed that 16 per cent (990,000) of people approaching retirement but still working were looking at the product due to improved rates against the background of rising living costs.

Nearly one million (990,000) pre-retirees, those aged over 55 and still in work, are considering annuities for the first time in preparation for their retirement, according to research from Legal & General Retail.

One in six people approaching retirement but still working (16%) are looking at the product due to improved rates against the backdrop of rising living costs. This is in addition to the 828,000 (14%) of working over 55s who had always planned to buy an annuity in retirement.

It seems like a substantial amount of longtermists are on board with the idea that Universal Basic Income (UBI) could be the logical foundation for human civilization. By logical foundation, I mean the optimal safety net and stabilizing force underpinning a successful capitalist economic system long term.
