How do you think a guaranteed basic income would affect economic growth?

How do you think a guaranteed basic income would affect economic growth?

1.The current job market would be affected because there would be a guaranteed income. With all the jobs that are currently being done being automated, there would be a lack of people available to do those jobs. Industries such as construction, manufacturing and grocery stores would be most affected because the people who are currently doing those jobs would no longer have to do them.

2.A guaranteed basic income would have a significant impact on the current job market. First of all, it would allow people to transition from jobs that do not pay a living wage or are not […]

A Hayekian Case for Free Markets and a Basic Income

A Hayekian Case for Free Markets and a Basic Income

Introduction

For better or for worse, there are now a substantial number of Americans who know the name of Friedrich Hayek only because his most popular book, The Road to Serfdom , was recommended by FOX News personal- ity Glenn Beck as a prescient warning about the dangerous trajectory of the Obama Administration. Most of those people, I suspect, would be quite chagrined to discover that, consistently and throughout his entire career, Hayek defended the rather socialist-sounding idea of an “equal minimum income for all.” 1There is certainly something of a […]

Chelsea basic income program so successful, it’s coming back, officials say

Over a year after the city of Chelsea gave 2,000 families $400 a month between 2020 and 2021, much of which was spent on groceries, city officials are planning a second round of payments beginning in January.

Chelsea Eats began at the suggestion of city manager Tom Ambrosino in 2020, The Boston Globe reported. Combining city and federal COVID-19 relief funds, along with a grant from the Shah Family Foundation , $4 million was put together to support families unable to receive federal assistance.

“We didn’t promote it as universal basic income,” he said to the Globe. “We promoted it as […]

Erin Allen : Hello, I’m Erin Allen and this is The Rundown. As expensive as things are these days, a little help each month could go a long way for many of us. And both Cook County and the city of Chicago and several other Illinois cities are beginning to provide that assistance in the form of monthly cash payments directly to residents. Sounds like a fucking dream right? Well, it could be for more than 3,200 Cook County residents selected for what it calls the Cook County Promised Guaranteed Income Pilot. There are several programs like this across […]

No, California is not sending out checks to all LGBTQ residents

San Francisco has launched a guaranteed income pilot program for trans people, but it’s limited to 55 low-income San Franciscans. Several national news outlets have reported that San Francisco has launched a guaranteed income program for some of its trans residents.

The launch comes amid a wave of California cities – and the state’s legislature – trying out similar programs for different types of residents, as a way to provide welfare to their most vulnerable residents.

A VERIFY viewer told us they’d heard there might be a program providing checks to all LGBTQ Californians, so we looked into whether such a […]
