Andrew Yang is going a step further — pushing a plan for "universal basic income." And to demonstrate what he’s talking about, the entrepreneur from New York City and uber-longshot for the Democratic presidential nomination is personally giving away money to families in Iowa and New Hampshire, the states that vote first and second in the presidential caucus and primary calendar.

Cash-strapped Chicago proposes a universal income program Some residents may be about to found out. A new proposal unveiled by a mayoral task force late last week would provide 1,000 struggling Chicagoans with $1,000 per month — no strings attached.

Under Finland’s two-year basic income trial, 2,000 randomly selected unemployed 25- to 58-year-olds were given €560 per month, with no requirement to look for work.
