To the Editor:

In her opinion (The Politics of Division) the author posits that this nation’s problem rests with conservatives whom she portrays as flat earthers who are fearful of change and lack enlightenment. By enlightenment liberals mean a rejection of the universal notions of objectivity, morality, truth and human nature. They believe that by abstract reasoning alone, derive universal truths. Liberal reasoning ignores experience, dogma, traditions, customs, pragmatism and rules. This fallacy is compounded as they decide with emotional, rather than cognitive empathy guaranteeing an overreaction and hence overreaching the confines of human nature.
