Universal Basic Income Experiment Launches in Kenya and Uganda Partly Funded by Bitcoin

The Pineapple Fund, a philanthropy organisation run by an anonymous early adopter of bitcoin, is helping to fund a basic income experiment in Kenya and Uganda through bitcoin donations. The Pineapple Fund has set aside $5 million worth of bitcoin for this project.

GiveDirectly, a charity that has been donating basic income unconditionally to the extreme poor in Kenya and Uganda for the past five years, is the organisation that is running this experiment. GiveDirectly is one out of the 59 charities Pineapple Fund donates to.
