NEW DELHI: Congress has proposed a minimum income scheme ("world’s largest," it claims) for the poor if it comes to power. Any family earning less than Rs 12,000 a month would receive Rs 6,000 every month. The party says its Nyunitam Aay Yojana (the acronym is NYAY because "people have suffered in the last five years and we are going to give justice to them") will cover five crore families and about 25 crore people will benefit (five per family). The NDA government has pledged direct cash support of Rs 6,000 a year for 12 crore poor farmers.
