Universal basic income is mostly being looked at as a way to keep nations economies in operations, and their citizens housed and off the streets in a world that is becoming increasingly automated. The reality of automation is unfortunately that it does reduce the total number of jobs in an economy. So the current scenario we risk is having our economies grow despite massive unemployment.
